what?

The CalFire mapping program is a program stewarded by Ari The Fireman. After receiving a grant from someone ( The Peninsula Society? someone who knows flesh this out please ) the La Honda fire crew scored a license to a semi-pricey hunk of kit used for mapping.

The South Skyline fire safety / cert crew, being well ahead of many in the region in terms of organization, dove in and started doing mapping of their neighborhoods using the kit. In turn two of their members, Peggy and Pat, started training others in the Coastside communities.

In the Canyon Wendy, MitchellB, and Casey received a training session last March, and added the homes & structures in Wendy's Corner to the CalFire map program. At that point they also did some 'corrective mapping' to indicate differences between external maps ( GOOGLE, BING, ETC ) and reality.

Currently scheduling problems have prohibited this from moving forward.

Lisa M jumped into the fray and restarted this, and scheduled a refresher with Ari.

oh ok, so what now

Lisa, Casey and Sophie were taught how to use the gear by Ari, as well as an explanation of the workflow ( the process for taking this info and getting it into the tablets in the CalFire trucks )

A mapping kit, containing a tablet, a high-accuracy GPS device and some great safety vests, is now in their collective possession. They will start mapping the canyon neighborhoods, and teaching other NCs in the canyon how to proceed with their areas.
