Mission Review: CEC organized to have known volunteers / organizatinos helping out in the EOC ( Emergency Operations center )
area info
La Honda Fire Station operated via CERT & Ham volunteers during power outages. round the clock volunteers using phone and ham radio. lots of questinos answeree and advice given.
people are advised to get LiFo batteries ( these are longer lasting variations on Lithium Ion Batteries ) for their equipment
the Verizon tower in La Honda has many Business grade Verizon cellular customers, and to that tower is provisioned to run much longer thatn other 'consumer' cell towers in the region.
the county and emergency services are working on advanced GIS models for 'evacuation polygons' the goal is to provide sequenced, accurate evacuation orders soas to not clog up our few escape routes.
Advice for Butano Residents concerning evacuation notices:
- Call 911
- don't call fire station
- Ari's cell doesn't work in half the areas he's in; don't call him either! he'll call you.
MEC Medical Emergency Corps
this is a nationwide organization with local chapters. the Coastside communities are looking to build up the volunteer organization for coordination of medical services during an emergency. if you're a dr, pharmicist, therapist, nurse etc and are trapped on thie coast side during an emergency this would be a way to help in an organized way.
DART
DART ran 46 flights, moving 2K lbs of food and had 100 odd volunteers. DART is a volunteer association of pilots who offer their airplanes during emergencies and they recently ran a drill in HMB, involving a dozen or two airports from SLO to the northern state border.
the DART drill also included moving injured animals.
USGS Presentation
Note; their statistics show that people who leave an area after a disaster greatly increase their change of never recovering fininacially from the disaster. They move away from their support groups and local knowledge.
- a 9.1 EQ in the Alaskan Island will result in 10-14' tsunami down here, about 7 hours later. higher risk than...
- cascadian fault probably but most of the engergy will go out to pacific directly. Alaskan wave goes down the coast directly.
- 'S.A.F.R.R' Science Application for Risk Reduction
- local quake doen't expect tsunami. ( unless there is an unpredictable undersea landslide. these could also happen at any time! )
- debate on the amount of energy in the fault under cloverdale road. at this meeting said "it's not long enough for a big one" but a different, more recent meeting its said that perhaps USGS has new and different evidence
- Hayward fault is the big one around here.
- expect 92 to be pretty broken esp down by the resevours. expect 2-4 foot gaps in the road, but horizontally and vertically. Don't expect to do much traveling by car.
upcoming meetings: Dec 11 6pm EOC Community meetign to show support for launching MEC
