Butano CERT meeting 02.22.2019
Attendees
Wendy, our amazing hostess, Catherine Peery, Lisa, Rob & Cotton, Mark & Sandra, William & Christine, that Casey. who else? my notes are messed up for this meeting ( signed, Casey )
Guests
Cleopatra Tuday from SMRDC ( http://www.sanmateorcd.org/about/staff/ )
Agenda, interlaced with corresponding notes
- Quick intros for new folks, if any. Let's not dive down into details.
- we all zoomed around, and Cleo introduced herself
- ( simultaneously ) pass around email lists; indicate if you want to be on the 'slow' or the 'fast' list by checking off in the appropriate spot, or adding you info
- this sorta worked, but everyone was pretty jazzed to be together. We did get a marked up piece of paper out of Finnigan's mouth while cleaning up, so I suspect we can move the arrows and runes about the two lists.
- CalFire Grants; overview and discussion by our guest from RCD, Cleopatra Tuday
- this may take some time. There is a current grant we can participate in involving mass wood/scrub chipping. There is the question of pursuing a 2019 Grant and the ( wide ) range of activities we could propose.
- There are are wide range of grant-supported activities we can apply for funds to pursue.
- SMRCD will provide support ranging from grant polishing to cash flow in exchange for administrative overhead re-eubursement from the grants. ( net zero for Butano )
- The canyon will need to decide what the heck we want to pursue
- we need a quorum of NCs to represent the canyon, which we really didn't have at this meeting. ( this brings to head a number of structural issues )
- vague notions of getting the NCs together specifically to form a direction for Grant Proposal work
- If we keep plugging, Cleopatra suggests, we can hit the Sept/Oct deadline. we're not out of the running at this point.
- after this part Cleo is welcome to split, or hang
- a sensible woman, Cleo split
- this may take some time. There is a current grant we can participate in involving mass wood/scrub chipping. There is the question of pursuing a 2019 Grant and the ( wide ) range of activities we could propose.
- BCERT focus question: Prep / Prevention balance. The group has to decide what fits its level of commitment.
- this brought to light the quorum issue again
- Lessons from the slo-mo emergency in Wendy's Corner
- Big trucks will move slowly
- we need more signs / sandwich boards. Perhaps each NC should have one? we have to figure out how to write on them.
- confusion: are there any in the Emergency hut? Answer: Casey checked Saturday: no
- everyone thought it was great that Susanne put out some boards for traffic control. Suppose an ambulance had been called up Madrone? sheesh.
- we all agreed that if the trees had fallen into Wendy's Palace of Wood that would be a fine basis for firing off the Siren to get community help
- Monday Night ham radio back up tests - how to listen and learn the voices of those who we'll be talking to in a real mess
- we touched base on this quickly: if your radio has a BU UP D setting just listen in.
- Evac Drill planning workshop
- Office of Emergency Services outreach person has agreed to help BCERT do a pre-plan planning meeting about running an evacuation drill. This would be in April, but the OES person hasn't gotten back to Casey WRT dates
- "House Pages" wiki workshop. Mar 9 afternoon. To bootstrap efforts to get neighborhood books / house pages moving forward. ( perhaps we should review if this is still a reasonable idea to create house pages, as it has so little uptake by teammates )
- Still a reasonable idea.
- some discussion circling around the Perfect being the Enemy of the Good. We don't need to have a neighborhood totally marked up on paper to start sharing the info via the wiki.
- so far: Wendy, Catherine, ?William and Christine? ( Casey missed an email? ), GateDon
- Rebooting CalFire Mapping
- LisaM coordinated somehow with AriTheFireman, and she and Casey and some collection of kids are getting trained in the procedures Saturday at 4pm
